Rotherham Looked After Children’s Council

The LAC Council is an award winning, young person led Voice and Influence group of young people aged 11 to 18 years who are Looked After by the local authority.

The group work together to raise awareness and improve Services for Looked After Children in Rotherham. We deliver our own training called ‘Total Respect’ to social workers and counsellors. We decide our own campaigns to change things for ourselves and others. We interview Social Workers, Managers and Senior Managers for jobs to make sure we get the right people. Plus, we do loads of fun stuff like go on day trips, activities and holidays together. We get involved with community events such as Rotherham Show, Pride of Rotherham Awards, Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Sunday.

We are supported, empowered and encourage to run our own LAC Council meetings and set our own agendas

Our Aims are to:

  • Help design, develop and shape services for Rotherham Looked After and Leaving Care young people
  • Ensure that Looked After and Leaving Care young people’s Voices are heard and influence changes Locally, Regionally and Nationally.

To have opportunities to come together, socialise, build confidence & resilience, raise self-esteem and aspirations, make friends, work together and have fun!
