Standards and Ethics Committee

What is the Standards and Ethics Committee?

We all expect councillors and other elected representatives to follow the highest standards of conduct.

Our Standards and Ethics Committee is responsible for promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct by councillors, independent members and co-opted members.

The committee may get involved in investigating any complaint that a member has broken the code of conduct.

A word from the Chair

A key part of the Council’s improvement journey has been a focus on standards and ethical conduct. It is clear that this is necessary to ensure healthy democratic leadership and accountability.

A prominent and effective Standards and Ethics Committee supports the development of a healthy culture within the Council. It also gives the public confidence in the Council’s decision-making and conduct.
