What Rotherham Council is doing to meet the Decent Homes Standard
Rotherham Council undertakes regular inspections and maintenance programmes to ensure our properties meet and continue to meet the Decent Homes Standard. This includes:
- Planned maintenance: We have ongoing programmes to replace kitchens, bathrooms, heating systems, and other components when they reach the end of their lifespan or no longer meet the required standards.
- Responsive repairs: If you report a repair issue that affects the safety or decency of your home, we will address it promptly.
- Damp and Mould: We take issues of damp and mould seriously and have measures in place to address them. We also provide advice to tenants on how to mitigate damp and mould through ventilation and maintaining a steady temperature.
- Safety Checks: We conduct annual gas safety checks and other necessary safety inspections to ensure your home is safe.
- Stock Condition Surveys: Over the next 4 years national building surveyors, MLCS3, are carrying out a Stock Condition Survey to assess the condition of Council homes in Rotherham. The survey is important as the detail captured allows the Council to update property condition records, which helps plan future maintenance and improvement works to Council homes. The surveyors will be checking all key building components such as kitchen, bathroom, windows, doors, and heating systems, and will need to take photographs to evidence their findings.
