Parish and nonconformist registers

Parish registers

The original parish register are held at either Sheffield or Doncaster Archives (the Diocesan Record Offices for the archdeaconries of Sheffield and Doncaster).

We have transcripts and/or microform copies of the registers for many of the parishes within the Metropolitan Borough and a collection of the printed transcripts published by the Yorkshire Archaeological Society.

For a number of parishes there are also plans of the churchyard and transcripts of the memorial inscriptions.

Nonconformist registers

There are large collections of the records (including registers of baptisms) for the chapels in the Rotherham and the Dearne Valley Circuits of the Methodist Church.

Other nonconformist collections include those for Masbrough Independent Chapel, Rotherham Congregational Church, the Church of Our Father, Moorgate (Unitarian) and Westgate Baptist Chapel.

A detailed list of nonconformist registers is available.
