The Leader of Rotherham Council, Cllr Chris Read, has announced the new Cabinet at the first Full Council Meeting on Wednesday 22 May.

Two new figures will be joining the senior political leadership of the authority.

Cllr David Sheppard will be adding to his portfolio and supporting Social Inclusion and Neighbourhood Working whilst also taking on the Deputy Leader role. Cllr Saghir Alam will also be taking on additional responsibilities as Cabinet Member for Finance and Safe and Clean Communities.

Cllr Sarah Allen will be returning as the Cabinet Member for Housing, with Cllr Cusworth continue as Cabinet Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services.

All Cabinet member roles are shown below:

  • Cllr Dave Sheppard: Deputy Leader, Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion and Neighbourhood Working.
  • Cllr Victoria Cusworth: Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
  • Cllr Joanna Baker-Rogers: Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health
  • Cllr Robert Taylor: Cabinet Member for Transport, Jobs and Local Economy
  • Cllr Sarah Allen: Cabinet Member for Housing
  • Cllr Saghir Alam: Cabinet Member for Finance & Safe and Clean Communities

At the Council Meeting, Cllr Chris Read said: “Working together, along with our colleagues in the council chamber, we will fulfil our commitments to invest in our roads and public spaces, our high streets and communities, to build a more inclusive economy where we help bring more people back into work or training, and build hundreds more warm, safe and affordable council homes. We will crack down on littering and flytipping, and give each of our children the best possible start in life including through our baby packs programme.

“But to each councillor taking their seat today, just take a minute to remember that you made it to represent your community and that is a remarkable thing you are doing.”
