Rotherham shows its support for Armed Forces community

Armed Forces Day

Rotherham will come together again to say thank you to our Armed Forces community on Saturday 22 June.

Led by the Council, in collaboration with the Armed Forces community, the Armed Forces Day event will provide an opportunity to come together and thank those who have fought for our country, as well as showing our support for those currently serving.

This year’s event, taking place in the town centre, will include a military parade, followed by a parade inspection, Act of Worship, speeches, and cadet displays. Entertainment will take place at All Saints' Square throughout the day.

The event programme is as follows:

  • Stalls on Effingham Street from 10am to 4pm
  • The Armed Forces Day Parade will move off from College Street at 10.20am The parade will be led by a marching band with military contingents, cadets and veterans
  • Entertainment at All Saints' Square from 11.25am to 4pm

Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Sheila Cowen, said: “As a proud veteran, I feel privileged to be leading our Armed Forces Day event. Rotherham is home to one of the biggest Armed Forces celebrations in the region and we will come together to honour all of the veterans who have served in the past, as well as those currently serving. This promises to be a fun-packed day with something for all ages to enjoy.”

Free parking is available on Saturdays in all Council-owned off-street car parks in Rotherham town centre with no ticket required.

There is a regular programme of events in the town centre on Saturdays, you can find out more on the Rotherham town centre website

This event has been brought to you by Rotherham Council and our Armed Forces community.
