‘This is Fostering Rotherham’: A new film capturing the care, connection and life-changing moments at the heart of local fostering

Foster carers in Rotherham have been sharing the highs, challenges, and deeply personal moments of Fostering in a brand-new video.

The video gives a powerful window into the world of fostering and what it truly means to open your heart, and your home, to a child in care.

These are not actors or scripted stories. They are the voices of people who live in Rotherham, who have stepped forward to change a child’s life and have found their own lives transformed in the process.

‘This is Fostering Rotherham’ has been launched to mark Foster Care Fortnight (12 to 25 May 2025) – a fortnight that highlights the dedication and vital support Foster Carers provide across the country.

The film also highlights the wider network behind every fostering journey. Anwen, a member of the Home Match team at Fostering Rotherham, Rotherham Council’s Fostering Service, speaks about the close-knit support carers receive. Including a dedicated social worker, free specialised training and an extensive local support network.

Rotherham Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Cllr Victoria Cusworth, said: "Fostering is built on nurturing relationships. The relationships between foster carers, the children they care for, and the teams who support them every step of the way. This film shows the care and positivity that makes fostering so powerful. I’m sure it will inspire people across Rotherham to consider whether this could be their moment to step forward."

Fostering Rotherham continues to call on local people to ask if they could offer a child a safe, loving home. Whether you're just learning about what foster care involves or feel ready to take the next step and speak to one of the Fostering Rotherham team, this film offers a heartfelt look at what’s possible when you say yes.
