A new programme which aims to support residents to progress into education, employment or training has been launched by Rotherham Council.

Pathways Rotherham focuses on supporting adults to develop basic skills and move towards or into employment. The support offered is tailored to individual needs and includes employment help, training support and help to access education and work experience.

The Pathways programme was developed by the Sheffield City Region local authorities and benefits from the European Social Fund. The funding allows the team of dedicated key workers to work with providers across the borough to assist adults who are unemployed or who have barriers to employment to find work.

Councillor Dominic Beck, Cabinet Member for Housing at Rotherham Council, said: “These are economically hard times for everyone and the Covid pandemic has had a real impact on people’s lives.

The funding is great news for the borough and will help us to expand the current programmes we already have in place to help give residents the skills they need to gain and secure employment.

“Last year the team helped 42 people into employment whilst 31 people were supported into a range of training opportunities from computer skills to forklift truck licenses. I’m delighted that this new programme means we will be able to help even more of our residents.”

Assistant Director for Housing Tom Bell added: “The prospect of getting back into work is exciting, but there are also lots of things to consider and for some people returning to work after a break can feel like a big step. The team will help make that transition easier and support you with everything from childcare issues to helping you write a CV.

The support offered is based on a number of criteria and will be offered to residents working less than 16 hours or claiming Universal Credit. If you feel like you would benefit from one-to-one help and advice about employment.
