Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres to open seven days a week

Starting this Sunday Rotherham Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres are set to open seven days a week.

The four sites at Greasbrough, Bramley, Rawmarsh and North Anston are open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Sunday during winter and will be open between 10am and 6.30pm during the summer months.

Social distancing restrictions are still in place in order to keep everyone safe and therefore queuing occurs at times. Residents are reminded to limit the number of visits they make where possible to ensure that everyone who needs the sites is able to access them.

Councillor Emma Hoddinott, Cabinet Member for Waste, Roads and Community Safety, said: “Following our commitment in the budget earlier this year, I'm pleased that our Household Waste Recycling Centres will all be open seven days a week. It is important people using the centres follow the rules which are still in place, such as keeping your distance, but this really helps with them being open more."

The health of residents and the workforce remains the priority of Rotherham Council and site managers FCC Environment.

Head of External Affairs at FCC Environment, Julie Fourcade, said: “FCC Environment manage some 100 Household Waste Recycling Centres up and down the country on behalf of Local Authorities. In recent months we have seen how vital a provision this is for local residents and it’s fantastic that we can re-open the Rotherham HWRC Sites seven days a week, whilst remaining Covid-19 secure.”

Permit schemes for small and large vans, pickup trucks and trailers are also being reintroduced.

Anyone visiting in the vehicles will be asked to show their permit books which allows access to the sites for up to six times a year.

More information on what can be disposed of at Household Waste Recycling Centres can be found on the Council website at https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/environment-waste
