The latest phase in a £1.4 million improvement package for libraries across Rotherham is continuing to move forward.
Work has now been completed at Mowbary Gardens, Kimberworth and Kiveton Park and improvements have started at Greasbrough.
Work started at Thorpe Hesley on 9th February and will get underway at Wickersley from 22nd February and at Dinnington from 4th March.
The works will mean that all sites are closed until April.
All 15 libraries across the borough are set to benefit from the scheme including Kiveton Park Library which has received over £200,000 investment to create a Community Hub housing both the library service and the Council’s Early Help Team.
The building received a full refurbishment including new office facilities, new Library furniture and shelving, a new meeting room, public toilet, fully equipped catering style kitchen, carpets and shelving and a new kitchen.
Cllr Sarah Allen, Member for Cleaner, Greener Communities said: “It’s great to see the work that is being carried out to improve libraries across Rotherham. Local communities and library users will be able to benefit from these improvements going forward as we look to come through the current Covid-19 pandemic.
“Libraries are an integral part of our neighbourhoods and it’s important that we create a library service that is responsive to community needs across the borough.”
The building improvements are part of Rotherham Council’s Libraries Capital Improvement Programme
Please note that Rotherham’s libraries are currently offering a temporary order and collect service.
This is available at Riverside House, Aston, Brinsworth, Kimberworth, Maltby, Rawmarsh, Swinton, Thorpe Hesley, Thurcroft and Wath Libraries.
Kiveton Park and Mowbray Gardens will reinstate this service on Thursday 11th February.
As the works start on Wickersley, Thorpe Hesley, Dinnington and Greasbrough libraries order and collect will cease.
Anyone interested in a particular author or title can search the online Library Catalogue and place a hold online or can telephone their local library for staff to place a hold on their behalf. Customers can choose which of our open libraries they wish to collect their books from. People are advised that under current circumstances the wait for reservations may be longer than usual.
Once the item(s) are ready for pickup, Library staff will get in touch to agree a date and time to come to the library to pick up the books. This will help manage queues safely and efficiently and in line with social distancing.
