A pile of books

For those looking to change or improve their professional life, an additional qualification can make a world of difference.

Rotherham College (part of the RNN Group) are offering adults in the local area the opportunity to learn for free from the comfort of their own home and gain new skills and recognised qualifications which could help open up new opportunities.

The courses allow learners to study where and when they like and are available in a variety of subject areas including Health and Social Care, Mental Health, Education and Training, Nutrition and Health and Business Management. Each course is made up of between two and four modules and some of the most popular courses include Counselling, Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences and Mental Health First Aid.

Rotherham College Assistant Principal Claire Godfrey, who is responsible for the curriculum offered across all RNN Group, (which also includes North Notts College and Dearne Valley College) explained some of the benefits of undertaking a distance learning course.

Claire said: “As a College we’re committed to playing a part in our local communities of Rotherham and South Yorkshire.

“Distance learning courses are ideal for people thinking of learning something new or as a way to update their skills; a big benefit of distance learning is that you can fit it in around existing commitments and it is a flexible way to learn.”

RNN Group Director of Employer Partnerships James Godsell has spoken to several local businesses about distance learning options for their staff.

James said: “Since the first national lockdown in 2020 we’ve had lots of enquiries from local businesses who are looking for ways to keep staff engaged and to provide opportunities for upskilling or updating knowledge and skills during this continued period of uncertainty.

“Distance learning ticks so many boxes for employers as it offers a fast and flexible way to deliver training that their staff can complete at home; it’s completely free of cost, and it can fit around existing commitments.”
