Two new temporary exhibitions opened at Clifton Park Museum this week after the local landmark reopened its doors.
The Youth Club exhibition depicts the youth culture in Rotherham from 1960’s – 2021 and showcases objects, photos and memories to help tell a story of youth, both past and present.
The exhibition, which has been co-produced with the Young Creators Group and funded by National Heritage Lottery Fund, looks at the themes of music, fashion, bedrooms, communication and gaming through memorabilia donated by local residents.
The collection, which covers everything from cassette players to Tik Tok and Pac-Man to Playstations will run until 15 August 2021.
Running alongside this the Revealed Roots, Concealed Connections exhibition has also opened at the Museum, celebrating the personal stories of three of the Museums Visitor Services team who co-produced the exhibition with contemporary artist Pippa Hale.
The exhibition centres around three new artworks created by Pippa and the team and draws out themes such as people’s love of dogs, travel, Rotherham United Football Club and former local brassworks, Guest and Chrimes.
The exhibition has been funded by Arts Council England and will be displayed until February next year.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Councillor David Sheppard said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome people back to the museum and these new exhibitions will add even more to the visitor’s experience. Both exhibitions are a wonderful celebration of the borough and its people.”
Alongside the two temporary exhibitions visitors to the museum can also enjoy a new art exhibition in the newly decorated Drawing Room. The Walker Café has also resumed its inside catering offer.
A number of events will take over the summer to celebrate the new exhibitions.
