Rotherham’s Clifton Park has once again been voted as one of the nation’s top ten favourite green spaces by the public.
More than 45,000 votes were cast in the Green Flag Award’s “People’s Choice” poll, choosing from over 1,800 sites across the country.
It is the fourth year running the popular park has been picked by the public to make the top ten, the only park in England to have achieved this.
The Green Flag scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy and recognises parks which boast the highest possible standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent facilities. The People’s Choice Award is voted for by the public and can only be awarded to a park that has already won a Green Flag.
Clifton Park received its ninth Green Flag this summer and the public were once again given the opportunity to vote for it as one of their favourite parks in the UK.
The park is one of Rotherham’s top attractions, with many families travelling from across the borough and beyond, to enjoy a day out within its delightful heritage landscape and the popular Clifton Park Museum.
Visitors of all ages can enjoy the open spaces, beautiful gardens, tree-lined avenues, water splash, amusement park, adventure golf and even a land train to take visitors to the Museum and back.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner, Greener Communities, Cllr Sarah Allen said: “We’re very proud for Clifton Park to be recognised through the Green Flag scheme, but to be voted as one of the nation’s favourite parks is the ultimate accolade.
“This reflects not only how loved the park is by Rotherham residents but it is a tribute to the hard work put in by the teams who manage and maintain Clifton and other parks across Rotherham.
“With Clifton Park the only local authority managed park in England to have been awarded the People’s Choice for the last four consecutive years, it could justifiably claim to be the country’s best loved park!
“I would like to say a huge thank you to people who’ve helped to achieve this wonderful award, from those behind the scenes, to everyone who took the time to vote.”
