Residents asked for views on Wickersley Neighbourhood Plan

Rotherham Crematorium

Wickersley Parish Council has put forward the Wickersley Neighbourhood Plan to Rotherham Council where it will now undergo public consultation, prior to independent examination.

Neighbourhood planning enables communities to play a much stronger role in shaping the areas in which they live and work and in supporting new development proposals.

Once a neighbourhood plan is in place decisions on planning applications will be made using both the Council's local plan and the neighbourhood plan, and any other material considerations.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy Cllr Denise Lelliott said: “Rotherham Council is committed to getting local people involved in planning for development of their local areas. The plan should be specially designed for the people of Wickersley, by the people of Wickersley.”

The consultation will run until 25 October 2021 and you can view and comment on the neighbourhood plan here

Chairman of Wickersley Parish Council, Councillor John Barber, said: “We have developed our Neighbourhood Plan in full consultation with the local community and this is the last stage before the draft plan is considered by an independent examiner.  Finding out how local people want their area to develop in the future is vitally important to ensure the plan reflects local character and aspiration.

“We therefore hope people will participate in this final consultation to ensure the policies contained in the Neighbourhood Plan are right for Wickersley.”
