Rotherham Leisure Centres Kitting Out the Nation with Local BBC Radio Stations

Make a difference and kit out the nation

Rotherham Leisure Complex together with Maltby, Aston and Wath Leisure Centres are kitting out the nation with the BBC’s ‘Make a Difference Kit out the Nation’ campaign.

The campaign, running until 16th October, is aimed at taking in and distributing unwanted, good condition sports kit and getting it to children and teenagers who need it.

As children go back to school local BBC radio stations across England are asking for sports kit and equipment donations to help them to get fit and active. The aim is to give children access to kit that they may not otherwise be able to afford or get hold of.

Places Leisure Manager Mark Rawding, who helps to run the leisure centres on behalf of Rotherham Council, said:  “Campaigns such as these are so important to ensure that every child has access to physical activity and can enjoy a love of sports. We are proud to support in helping to take donations for this worthwhile cause – the response so far has been absolutely fantastic and we’d like to thank everyone who has been a part of it. We are welcoming all good quality sports clothes and regular games equipment that a young person can use in an activity, such as balls, bats and rackets.

“If you would like to get involved and have any good condition kit or equipment, that would otherwise simply remain in cupboards or go to landfill, then please bring it along to the centre during opening hours or visit www.placesleisure.org/bbc-kit-out-the-nation/ for more details on other locations where you can donate.”

Chris Burns, Head of Audio and Digital for BBC England, said: “Make a Difference’ has been a phenomenal success and I am proud that all 39 local BBC radio stations will be involved in helping young people get access to sports kit and equipment they need to get fit and stay healthy through ‘Kit Out The Nation’.”
