Passengers urged to 'plan ahead' - Partner Release

Plan your festive travel

Public transport chiefs are urging passengers to plan ahead and check before they travel this festive season, as changes and cancellations affect services in South Yorkshire.

Limited services and earlier final departures are timetabled across bus, tram and train networks until January. Engineering work, strike action and short-notice cancellations are expected to further disrupt services.

Director of Public Transport Operations at South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), Tim Taylor, said:

“South Yorkshire’s bus, tram and train services are running reduced timetables over Christmas and New Year. With engineering work, planned strike action, timetable changes, and a risk of staff shortages and short-notice cancellations from Coronavirus in the coming weeks, we’re expecting some disruption to normal public transport services. So, we’re urging passengers to plan ahead and check before they travel, to stay safe and follow Government travel guidance. Remember to wear a face cover unless you’re exempt, keep windows open to let fresh air in whenever possible, and wash or sanitise your hands frequently, so everyone can stay safe this festive season.”

  • Most bus and tram services will follow reduced timetables until Monday 3 January 2022, finishing early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
  • Bus, tram and train services will not run on Christmas Day.
  • Planned engineering works and industrial action will affect train services over the festive period.
  • Rail passengers should check the National Rail Enquiries website before travelling.
  • Indefinite strike action is planned to affect Stagecoach services across South Yorkshire from Saturday 1 January 2022.
  • Timetable changes will affect bus services across South Yorkshire from Sunday 2 January 2022.
