
A further six libraries are set to hold launch events over the coming months, following refurbishments of the buildings and their facilities.
Rotherham libraries are under-going significant upgrades as part of the brough-wide libraries 1.8 million capital investment programme.
To mark the completion of the latest six projects, Wath, Kimberworth, Dinnington, Greasbrough, Mowbray Gardens and Wickersley Libraries are opening their doors for a day of celebration with a packed programme of activities for both adults and younger residents to enjoy.
The events will also be an opportunity for people to take in the new spruced-up surroundings and updated facilities and find out more about weekly events that happen throughout the year.
Wath Library has undergone extensive refurbishment and Dinnington, Greasbrough and Wickersley now benefit from internal redecoration, with all four libraries now boasting upgraded IT facilities.
Visitors to Kimberworth and Mowbray Gardens Libraries can expect a fresh new décor, updated shelving and furniture to sit and enjoy the latest new release and as well as an improved, welcoming outside space.
The re-launch events will be held on the following days;
- Thursday 3 February – Wath Library
- Thursday 10 February – Kimberworth Library
- Tuesday 15 February – Dinnington Library
- Monday 28 February – Greasbrough Library
- Friday 4 March – Mowbray Gardens Library
- Tuesday 8 March – Wickersley Library
Programmes vary at each site, but activities for the youngsters include storytelling with Zowie Norris, mini makers arts and crafts sessions, rhymetime, mini melodies, board games, a performance by Patsy’s Fun Show as well as a talk by the RSPB.
Whist the adults can enjoy photography competitions, writing sessions, yoga, board games and a visit by author Ray Hearne, as well as the official cutting of the ribbon!
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Councillor David Sheppard said: “It’s great to see the work that is being carried out to improve libraries across Rotherham. Libraries have always been an integral hub in our communities and it’s great to see them reopen, better than ever before - it’s so important they evolve to meet the needs of the residents.
“The launch events look like they will be a great deal of fun with lots of wonderful activities on offer for people to enjoy, and I for one look forward to taking part.”
