This week is Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week. The Council is playing an important role across the Borough tackling ASB and helping to keep our communities safe.
Addressing ASB is a ward priority for both the Maltby East Ward and the Hellaby and Maltby West Ward.
A number of measures have been taken around this issue
The Council’s Neighbourhoods Team set up a stakeholder meeting to discuss ASB issues and identify any gaps in provision to support local young people’s wellbeing, education and physical fitness. The meeting involved listening to organisations and Council department concerns within Maltby, including feedback from young people.
The aim is to arrange an additional meeting in September to plan next steps and provide updates.
In partnership with Flux Rotherham, free summer activities will be taking place across ASB hot spot areas. These are taking place to:
- Encourage families to play together at an organised event, where people feel safe
- Bring art and creative activities to Maltby
- Encourage good behaviour/ practice in the green spaces
- Disrupt any ASB activity
- Work with the community and partners to showcase joint working and a ‘You said, we did’ practice
- Engage with the community to gather further information and ways to improve green spaces
- Promote reporting ASB to the Police
Within the Hellaby and Maltby West Ward, a large proportion of ASB activity has been in the form of burglaries.
Through joint working with partners, steps have been taken to encourage the community to safeguard their properties and follow Police advice.
The Council’s Neighbourhoods Team has also set up community meetings and supported the formation of a Hellaby Neighbourhood Watch.
In addition, Ward Councillors have funded household security goods, which have been distributed to residents at events and at community safety drop-in sessions, along with advice from the Police.
Reporting crime and ASB
Reporting crime and ASB is important, the information you give not only allows the Police and partners to investigate and take action, but it can lead to extra funding and resources being given to your local area.
All incidents reported to the Police are logged and analysed. If patterns or high incidents of reports are found, extra resources to tackle the issue can be given.
