Visitors to Thrybergh Country Park are being asked to take part in engagement sessions to discuss plans for improvements to facilities at the park.
It is part of a wider package of measures to develop Rotherham’s leisure offer and visitor economy.
Rotherham secured £20m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to create new jobs and celebrate the "hidden gems" and green spaces that are unique to Rotherham’s heritage, transforming Rotherham into a major leisure destination.
The funding will be used for implementing improvements at Thrybergh Country Park, as well as supporting new facilities at Rother Valley Country Park, leisure schemes at Wentworth Woodhouse and Magna, as well as investment in training and education in the leisure industry at Skill City at Gulliver’s Valley and at Maltby Academy.
In addition to the immediate upgrades which will include a new café and public realm improvements, there will be an opportunity to comment on long-term proposals for the Thrybergh Country Park Masterplan improve the facilities and create new activities within the park.
The engagement events at Thrybergh Country Park will allow local residents and regular users of the country parks to view the plans. They will take place on:
- Saturday 20 August (10am - 1pm)
- Tuesday 23 August (10:30am - 1:30pm)
- Thursday 25 August (5pm - 7pm)
- Saturday 3 September (12pm - 3pm)
The first stage of developments will include Thrybergh Country Park benefiting from a new destination waterside café, improved public realm, and visitor facilities.
Further engagement events will take place at Rother Valley Country Park to allow residents and users to see plans and proposals for the park, including improvements to the public realm and visitor facilities. Dates will be released shortly.
Rotherham’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Cllr David Sheppard, said: “Our parks and green spaces are one of the great things about our borough, and we want to ensure that this funding makes our country parks even better for the people that use them, so I hope everyone will have their say on these exciting proposals. We want to help local people get the full economic benefits too, so it's important to me that there will be chances for people to access training and gain new skills to improve their career opportunities as part of our investment plans.”
