Cabinet members at Rotherham Council are set to welcome the new Safer Rotherham Partnership Plan 2022-2025 at the meeting on Tuesday 20 September 2022.

The plan outlines a number of commitments based around four key priorities which the partnership will focus on over the next three years. These include:

  • Protecting vulnerable children, including child criminal exploitation, child abuse and child sexual exploitation
  • Protecting vulnerable adults, including substance abuse, modern slavery and human trafficking
  • Safer and stronger communities, including tackling neighbourhood crime and anti-social behaviour, hate crime and online crime
  • Protecting people from violence and organised crime, such as domestic abuse, serious violence, and male violence against women and girls

Chair of the Safer Rotherham Partnership Board and Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Cllr Saghir Alam, said: “I am pleased that the Cabinet welcome the new Safer Rotherham Partnership Plan. Over the last four years, the Safer Rotherham Partnership have done some fantastic work. This plan will allow the Council and its partners to continue the hard work, and help and support many more residents across Rotherham in the future.”

Recent successes include:

  • Engagements with over 12,000 secondary age pupils in Rotherham about child criminal exploitation
  • Over 1,700 mental health support interventions delivered between April 2019 and March 2022 to reduce vulnerability to becoming involved with the criminal justice system
  • The investment of around £0.6 million in improving CCTV to improve feelings of safety in public spaces
  • The implementation of campaigns such as Operation Encompass, where all Rotherham schools participated in immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse, as well as the Ask for Angela campaign in shops, public houses and other safe spaces across the borough.

The Safer Rotherham Partnership is the borough's Community Safety Partnership which includes organisations such as the Council, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), and the Probation Service.
