Rotherham care home rated ‘good’ by independent assessors

A Rotherham care home that provides respite accommodation for people with learning disabilities and autism has been rated ‘good’ in all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Conway Crescent is run by Rotherham Council and specialises in caring for people on a short-term basis, to enable carers to have a respite break.

The CQC inspection report was produced after two visits to the home in July 2022, when inspectors noted that the accommodation is safe and well-run, with effective, caring and responsive staff.

According to the latest CQC report; ‘staff knew and understood people well. People also received good quality care, support and treatment, because trained staff and specialists could meet their needs and wishes.’

Cllr David Roche, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “This is fantastic news for clients and staff at Conway Crescent. Among other positive aspects, the inspectors have written about the kindness and compassion shown by our staff and the respect they show for people’s privacy and dignity.

“This report draws attention to the genuine warmth and affection in the way staff interact with people too, which is reassuring for our service users and their families. This independent review reflects well on my colleagues, who are providing an important service and enabling families to get some much-needed respite. I thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

'Right support, right care, right culture' is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services, including Conway Crescent.

The overall rating of Conway Crescent is ‘good’, and CQC has applied the same ‘good’ rating to each sub-category of;

·         Safety

·         Effectiveness

·         Care

·         Responsiveness

·         Leadership

This is the first inspection for the Council’s newly registered service. CQC concluded that ‘Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.’
