Rotherham's Christmas Lights Switch-On will include walkabout entertainment from the National Elf Service by Mark Mark Productions

It’s nearly November and there are lots of fun events taking place across Rotherham.

This month, Rotherham's Christmas Lights' Switch-On will take place on Saturday 19 November, 3pm to 6pm in the Town Centre which will welcome in the festive season at this FREE, family-friendly event. It will include live music from a ten-piece Ska and Reggae band Jungle Lion and amazing local singer Hannah Roe, walkabout entertainment, a light performance, a gift market, fairground rides and food and drink before the countdown to the Christmas Lights' Switch-On.

The Clifton Park Bonfire Event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 5 November. During the event the fire will be lit at 6:45pm with a firework display at 7:30pm. Free admission to the event. A variety of fun events are happening in Rotherham Libraries from Bonfire Night themed craft activities to Autumn crafts. Also, there will be a display and signposting placed in the libraries for help and advice during Men’s Mental Health Awareness month.

 

Events include:

  • Wednesday 2 November, 10am to 11am and 11:30am to 12:30pm, Nelson's Cub Club 'Pour'. In our 'Pour' session you and your teddy can join in with the teddy bear's picnic! Play with the sensory rice, serve up lots of teatime treats and enjoy a story. £3.50 per child, adults free, places must be booked. Clifton Park Museum
  • From 4 November until 24 December 2022, Monday, Thursday, 8:30am to 7pm;
    Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm; and Saturday, 9am to 4pm, The Stories We Chose To Tell - Exhibition, An exciting photography exhibition developed through a collaboration between award-winning documentary photographer Rich Wiles and eight young people from Rotherham. The young participants set out with disposable cameras to produce images exploring elements of their own lives and identity, which will be presented alongside a series of collaborative portraits in which Wiles pressed his camera's shutter release but the context and locations again came from the young participants. All participants chose which aspects of their lives to present through this work. They also selected their own final images and have added text layers to further amplify their voices. If you are planning on attending, please plan your travel carefully, there is limited parking at Clifton Park car parks at Clifton Lane and Doncaster Road, the closest public car park is Drummond Street which is a 5-minute walk back to the park. There is street parking available on Middle Lane near Clifton Community school. Parking services will be patrolling residential streets on the night, so please park considerately on these roads as residents do require clear access on and off their properties at all times.   • Saturday 5, 12, 19 and 26 November, 9am, Rother Valley parkrun, Rother Valley Country Park - a 5K Run for beginners to experienced runners, all welcome. A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you. You need to register online before you first come along. Please register in advance to gain your free bar code on the parkrun website. Only register with parkrun once and don't forget to bring a scannable copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won't get a time. Normal Parking charges for the park apply.   • Sunday 13 November, 11am to 3:30pm, Remembering the Fallen, Archive and Local Studies Search Room (Based at Clifton Park Museum)
  • Wednesday 16 November, 10am to 11am and 11:30am to 12:30pm, Nelson's Cub Club 'Again'. In our 'Again' session we explore making lots of different patterns. Use the toys to make repeating patterns or thread beads. Try making pattern pictures  and enjoy a story. £3.50 per child, adults free, places must be booked, Clifton Park Museum
  • Saturday 19 November, 3pm to 6pm, Rotherham's Christmas Lights' Switch-On
    Rotherham Town Centre - Welcome in the festive season at this FREE, family-friendly event. Come along and enjoy live music including the fabulous ten-piece Ska and Reggae band Jungle Lion and amazing local singer Hannah Roe, a fantastical light performance ‘Candle’ from Dream Engine, walkabout entertainment from the National Elf Service by Mark Mark Productions and Pif-Paf’s Moths at Work Lightbulb, gift market, fairground rides, food and drink and of course lighting up the town for Christmas with the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Tajamal Khan at 6pm.
  • Wednesday 30 November, 10am to 11am and 11:30am to 12:30pm, Nelson's Cub Club 'Roll'. In our 'Roll' session you can roll toy cars or make your own car from a paper plate! Play in the ball pit, roll some play-doh and enjoy a story. £3.50 per child, adults free, places must be booked, Clifton Park Museum
