Local residents and families were able to access useful advice and take part in free craft activities at an Autumn wellbeing morning.

Councillors from the Maltby East Ward and the Hellaby and Maltby West Ward, the Council's Neighbourhoods Team and local community organisations supported this event.

The wellbeing morning took place on Saturday 22nd October at Maltby Joint Service Centre. Maltby Joint Service Centre is a fantastic community hub that already supports residents with their health, fitness and wellbeing. Facilities within the centre include the Library, leisure centre, Manor Fields Doctors, Pharmacy and additional NHS referral services.

On the day, residents were able to gain advice around the cost-of-living, household budgeting, the location of Winter social group meetings, home security and a chance to grab a Covid-19 jab, or book an NHS health check.

Rotherham Federation of Communities (Rotherfed) attended, who offer a free service to Rotherham residents who need advice, support and guidance regarding their personal finances. Rotherfed have supported Maltby Foodbank, as well as groups and individuals within the Maltby and Hellaby area for many years. You can follow this link to view their Malltby and Hellaby, Making Our Money Go Further, Facebook page

At the event, Rotherfed gave advice ranging from good shopping practice to helping people understand and reduce energy costs. You can find out more information on their dedicated Energy Know How, website page

PCSO Glyn from Rotherham South Police supported Maltby and Hellaby residents by handing out free home security devices. Glyn gave useful advice on how to protect your home over the dark nights.

Yorkshire Sport Foundation, Development Support Officer, Chris Ng, offered advice on how to keep fit, no matter your age or ability. Chris supports local community group members and residents to gain the skills to run activities that increase physical activity.

Recently, the Bevan Court Community Group received funding and coaching. In the group's meeting space, they now run indoor Curling and Boccia. This is a great way for older residents to keep active, whilst the weather is grim outside.

Maltby Tesco Community Champion, Julia Jones, brought along ideas and advice on healthy and affordable Winter family meals.

The NHS Covid vaccination bus parked up for the duration of the event.

The bus offered on the spot Covid vaccinations for over 50s and Health Checks for over 40s.

At the Autumn wellbeing event, families could also get busy making Halloween decorations, as well as colouring in spooky bats and pumpkins to decorate their homes.

This event supports the ward priority for the Maltby East Ward around improving opportunities and facilities for children.

For the Hellaby and Maltby West Ward, the event supports the ward priority around supporting and developing initiatives to increase community and individuals' wellbeing.

The event was a huge success, look out for the next Winter Wellbeing and Family Craft Morning at Maltby Library in early 2023.
