Consultation to take place on Green Arbour Road shopping parade improvements

Thurcroft and wickersley South

Consultation events are taking place, allowing members of the public to feedback on plans to improve the area along Green Arbour Road in the Thurcroft and Wickersley South Ward.

Following consultation work, which was undertaken with local businesses in late-2022, two events have now been aranged within Thurcroft to get local people's views on potential improvements to the area.

Through the investment, the overall appearance of the shopping area could be improved for local residents, businesses and visitors to the area. Pedestrian and highway safety improvements will also be considered during the design and implementation of the scheme. Street furniture could also be updated with bollards, benches, streetlights and additional bins installed. Opportunities for planters, street trees or other soft landscaping could also be considered, to create a more welcoming environment.

Improvements are possible thanks to Rotherham Council’s Towns and Villages Fund. The Towns and Villages Fund is a £4 million commitment from Rotherham Council to deliver improvements in local town and village centres across Rotherham. A range of projects will be delivered from now until 2024.

Feedback received will play a crucial role in the decision-making process, and Ward Councillors are keen to make sure as many local people as possible have their say. The events will take place on:

  • Friday 10 February, 10am to midday at Green Arbour Road
  • Saturday 25 February, midday to 2pm at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall

There will also be an opportunity for residents to have their say online and join the conversation on social media.

Investment into the Green Arbour Road shopping parade supports the Thurcroft and Wickersley South Ward priorities around building a stronger, cohesive community and improving the local environment. You can view the ward priorities in full on the Rotherham Council website.

Further information on the proposals can be found on the Towns and Villages Fund webpages.

It is expected that work will be carried out between Spring and Autumn 2023.
