A new pop-up hub comes to Maltby

Love maltby

A new pop-up hub has opened at the High Street in Maltby, as part of a new project called ‘Picturing Maltby’.

This is being delivered by FLUX Rotherham, in partnership with Rotherham Council.

Maltby East Ward and Hellaby and Maltby West Ward Councillors have been working with FLUX, delivering events and engaging with local people around what they would like to see in the local area.

Following this, ‘Picturing Maltby’ was launched last month, aiming to collect residents' memories of Maltby and to build a website sharing people's photos and stories.

Images and stories will be collected, reflecting Maltby's unique character and heritage, celebrating its working-class history. These pictures will be collected over the next months to build up a bank of images, which will then be shared on a publicly accessible website. The photographs will inspire new artistic programmes and artworks, so watch this space!

The hub has opened on Tuesday 7th February and will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10am to 3pm for the next few months. The hub is located across the road from ‘New To You’.

Residents are encouraged to come along to the hub for three days of Valentine’s fun on Maltby High Street from the 13th to 15th February, with activities for all the family.

On the 13th and 14th February, come and visit the pop-up space on the High Street (next to Masson's Hair Salon) between 10am and 3pm, to take part in creative activities including the Love Maltby Trail, badge and sticker making. The trail has been created in partnership with 16 Maltby shops and businesses and is hosted by the amazing We Great Ladies.

On the 15th February, join us at Maltby Leisure Centre Warm Hub between 4pm and 6pm and bring along your favourite family photo on your phone. We will print it off and you can create a beautiful mount to display it in.

Councillor Simon Ball, Ward Councillor for Hellaby and Maltby West Ward, said: “It’s pleasing to see lots of events and activities happening in the local area. As a Ward Councillor, we continue to work closely with the Council’s Neighbourhoods team and FLUX Rotherham to help deliver exciting events for local residents.”

Councillor Adam Tinsley, Ward Councillor for Maltby East Ward, added: “One of our Ward priorities is around improving the High Street in Maltby. It is great news that a new pop-up Hub will be opening, with a range of events and activities on offer for people of all ages.”

Helen Jones, Director at FLUX Rotherham, said: “We’ve been working with people in Maltby over the last 6-8 months and have had such a warm welcome from local residents, businesses and community groups. The stories and images that are being shared are full of joy and are a wonderful document of recent and not so recent social history. We’re excited to see what happens next!”
