Dinnington sets out to develop a Neighbourhood PlanPublished Wednesday, 1st June 2016
Dinnington could become the first area in Rotherham to have a Neighbourhood Plan.
Dinnington St. John’s Town Council has submitted an application to Rotherham Council to designate Dinnington St. John’s Parish as a proposed neighbourhood area.
Having a designated neighbourhood area is the first stage in developing a formal Neighbourhood Plan. Neighbourhood Plans helps communities shape how development will look in their area. A Neighbourhood Plan cannot block development, but it can be used to influence the type, design, location and mix of any new development. If successful the Neighbourhood Plan would eventually form part of Rotherham’s Local Plan and be used in deciding planning applications in the area.
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy Cllr Denise Lelliott said: “Rotherham Council is committed to getting local people involved in planning for development of their local areas. The plan should be specially designed for the people of Dinnington, by the people of Dinnington.”
The consultation will run until 20 June 2016 and you can view and comment on the neighbourhood area application at the bottom of this page (but not the plan content at this stage).
Chairman of Dinnington St. John’s Town Council David Smith said: “It’s very exciting to get to this stage but this is just the beginning. We’re keen to engage with as many members of the community as possible, find out what people think and develop a consensus. It’s vital to create community support so the whole of Dinnington can contribute to the future direction of the area and guide planning decisions effectively for the benefit of everyone.
“We need to ensure development is right for the area. Also the provision of local amenities, the value of remaining open spaces and the connections made between developments are all vital to the health of Dinnington. A Neighbourhood Plan can consider how these developments reflect and link with each other, providing much needed facilities for the area.”
