Licensing and Gambling Policy Consultations Live

Council News
Council News

People are being urged to have their say on potential changes to the Council’s Cumulative Impact Policy, and the Gambling Act Policy.

Separate consultations around the two issues are open online at www.rotherham.gov.uk/consultations and public drop-in sessions have been arranged where people can come along and share their views.

The Cumulative Impact Policy was first introduced in 2020 after extensive consultation with residents, local businesses and partners. It covers Wickersley North, Thurcroft and Wickersley South and was introduced in these areas as a tool to limit the growth of licensed premises and to support the local communities.

The latest Cumulative Impact Policy consultation will focus on a review of the effectiveness of the current cumulative impact assessment active in Wickersley, and look at whether any other parts of the borough would benefit from a cumulative impact assessment being introduced.

The Council is also responsible for licensing local gambling places in the borough and sets conditions by which these places must be run. This responsibility provides an opportunity to influence the local gambling industry and minimise where possible, the harm that might be caused by problem gambling.

The current Gambling Act Policy includes a number of clauses that are intended to promote safer gambling practices and protect vulnerable people. This latest consultation will determine whether changes to the policy should be recommended to the Council Cabinet for review and implementation.

The joint drop-in sessions for the Cumulative Impact Policy and Gambling Policy consultations are to be held at:

  • Riverside House Library – 10am to 12pm on Monday 17 July
  • Wickersley Library – 4pm to 6.30pm on Thursday 20 July
  • Dinnington Library – 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday 26 July
  • Wath Library – 11am to 1pm on Friday 28 July
