Decisions agreed by Rotherham Council's Cabinet today

New Council homes, a policy to help local residents gain access to local jobs and the Council’s priorities and ambitions for children in care were discussed and agreed when Rotherham Council’s Cabinet held its latest meeting today, Monday 22 January.

       1. New Local Labour Policy approved.

The policy will challenge developers to do more to train and employ local people at the start of the planning process. It will enable the Council to work towards its aim to create a more inclusive local economy and will see an increase in opportunities for residents to access training and jobs.

  1. Plans to deliver hundreds of homes and invest £856m into Council housing stock is approved.

The Housing Revenue Account Business Plan makes funding provision of £126m for hundreds more Council homes by 2026 and commits £856m to invest in the Council’s housing stock, alongside day-to-day housing management and repairs and maintenance costs.

  1. Rotherham Council’s Corporate Parents Strategy approved.

The document sets out the Council’s ambitions and priorities for children in care, alongside the roles and responsibilities of the Council and partner agencies.

These were the main headlines. Other reports discussed at the Cabinet meeting today included, among others:

  • The Adult Social Care Strategy for Rotherham 2024-27.
  • Changes to the Hackney Carriage tariffs
