Rotherham’s Healthy Holiday programme returns for another year

Rotherham’s Healthy Holiday programme returns for another year

Rotherham Council has once again partnered with a range of providers across the borough to deliver the Rotherham Healthy Holiday programme during the school break.

Running throughout the Easter holidays, over 58 different programmes are taking place throughout Rotherham, starting from Tuesday 2 to Friday 12 April.

Popular activities returning for 2024 include: arts and crafts, swimming, dance, football, parkour and boxing.

New events for this year include skate events at Clifton Park Skate Park, Make a Space sessions at Rotherham Libraries and The Fun Hub - a fantastic day of paintballing, archery and much more at Gulliver’s Valley.

Leomi White Project Co-ordinator at Activate Rawmarsh said: “We have been running our Holiday Club now for three years. Every year it is a privilege to not only be part of such a fun and exciting programme, but also something which offers so much to families.

“Lots of children have come to us year after year and they have started to make great friends. The programme isn’t just about providing fun activities and nice food, it’s also about catching up with your holiday club mates.”

Funded places are available for many children, and this includes over 12,000 from the borough who receive benefits-related free school meals. Many providers offer good value paid places as well.

Every funded session includes a meal. Some sessions are limited so parents are being encouraged to book places for their children at the earliest opportunity.

Parents must collect a unique reference number from their child's school to access funded place.

Councillor Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Rotherham Council, said: “The Healthy Holidays programme proved to be a huge success over the winter break with providers serving 5,688 free meals to children as part of their activities.

“We know that this continues to be a challenging time for many families with cost of living pressures, and we’re so pleased to be able to offer the programme during the Easter holidays too, with an excellent range of activities for children and young people.

“I would encourage parents to take a look at the activities that are taking place and to book their child’s place as soon as possible.”

To find out more or to book a place, please contact the activity providers directly.
