Rotherham Allotments Alliance
Since 2020 all Council Allotments have been operated by a community benefit society called Rotherham Allotment Alliance (Ltd).
A volunteer board of directors manages the allotments. All the money collected from allotment tenants goes back into improving the allotments. This means that allotment gardeners have more say in how Council allotments operate.
HOW IT WORKS
The Council leases all its allotment sites to the Rotherham Allotment Alliance, who then sub let either to site societies or individual tenants, depending on the site.
All income generated will only be able to be used for the benefit of allotments and their tenants.
Every plot-holder becomes a member of the Alliance and will own a share in the new company. This will give them a say in how the Alliance runs all the allotment gardens in Rotherham.
The Alliance will has a board of directors who manage its affairs on behalf of members. All members will be able to stand for election as directors and can vote in these elections.
It is the goal of the Alliance for all allotment gardens to be managed by a group or society. Some groups might even take care of more than one garden in their area. Those sites without a society will be managed directly by the Alliance.
