Supporting Children with English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The Early Years and Childcare Service support early years settings to understand the needs of children and their families who have English as an additional language and how practitioners can develop their provisions to ensure children and families feel welcomed and valued.

The support is provided by:

  • Working with individual settings to identify areas of development within their provision; this can include looking at the physical elements of the provision (including resources and equipment)
  • Providing training around understanding the needs of children with English as an additional language and how to address these needs
  • Delivering awareness sessions around government policy and guidance and how this can be interpreted within an early years setting
