It is proposed that this scheme will make public realm improvements to the shopping area along Green Arbour Road, between the junctions with Katherine Road/Katherine Street to the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall site.

Current Site Issues

It is considered that the area selected would benefit from general upgrades to the public realm to improve the overall appearance for local residents, businesses and visitors to the area. Pedestrian and highway safety improvements will also be considered during the design and implementation of the scheme.

Initial Proposal

In response to pre-design consultation, with local residents and businesses, the below concept design has been produced.

This focusses on improving the pedestrian experience, regulating some of the parking issues and greening the area. The proposals include the provision of a defined footway along the front of the shopping area, the provision of planters with herbaceous planting, reduction in the number of bollards, the provision of additional bins and seating is also proposed. Additional tree planting is proposed to the frontage of the recreation ground site.

Scheme Progress and Next Steps

Works commenced on site October 2023. Works are hoped to be complete early 2024.
