Rotherham Christmas lights switch on

The entertainment starts at 3pm with a programme of music in Market Square including the incredible Sheffield Community Choir, DJ Kavita and authentic eight-piece Ska band The Superskas.

On the streets MarkMark Productions will bring their crowd pleasing A Christmas Carriage walkabout show, and Kitsch & Sync Collective return with Oh Deer. As well as all the entertainment there will be a gift and outdoor market on Effingham Street for those wishing to pick up a few Christmas presents, and you can find fairground rides at Effingham Square.

Magical live music, movement and lighting spectacular Spark! will transform the town centre with light and sound throughout the event.

The Minster Gardens will host Echoes of Glass from 3pm until 8pm, a unique sound and light sculpture by Pif-Paf. Inspired by the stories and sounds of Catcliffe and the famous Catcliffe Glass Cone with contributions from the local community. Warm your hands over four furnaces and listen to music inspired by the site’s long history.

Young musicians from Rotherham Borough will showcase their talents at the side of the Christmas tree in All Saints’ Square, before the countdown begins to the big switch-on with the Mayor of Rotherham , Councillor Robert Taylor, at 6pm.

Touring artwork Museum of the Moon by artist Luke Jerram will be installed in Rotherham Minster from Saturday 18th until Thursday 30th November brought to you by Flux Rotherham in partnership with the Rotherham Minster team.
