Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Investment Plan
The Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Investment Plan (WWCIP) is the road map to a healthier, greener, safer and better-connected Rotherham, expanding opportunities for all, for improved physical and mental health and economic growth enhancement.
Listening to and working alongside communities, we will develop schemes empowering every resident, regardless of age, ability, income or background, to travel confidently and independently in their neighbourhoods and beyond.
As many Rotherham residents would like improved conditions for walking and cycling, the investment plan covers the entire Rotherham Council area.
Combatting inactivity and deprivation, extensive masterplanning was undertaken in three focus areas - Rotherham Central, Wath and Dinnington – as part of a long-term plan for how Rotherham will deliver its objectives around active travel.
More families walking or cycling to key destinations in their local communities, such as schools, shops and leisure facilities, was a key objective.
Aligning with wider Rotherham Council aims and objectives, the Walking, Wheeling and Cycling Investment Plan (WWCIP) is part of the Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) regional strategy for walking, wheeling and cycling.
