Support for Schools

We offer loads of initiatives to support schools in making Active Travel fun, inclusive and accessible. Find out more about each of our programmes below. If you’re a member of school staff, you can find contacts below to arrange sessions in your school – if you’re a parent please contact your school and ask them to enquire to be involved in the initiative.

Nominate Junior Road Safety Officers

Usually 2x Y5 children but could be younger or older. Children who would enjoy coordinating road safety activities and information in school, speaking in assembly about all aspects of road safety.

Walking Bus/ Park and Stride

Organise a formal walking bus to support children gaining walking to school and getting to know classmates that live nearby

Living Streets

Pupils record how they get to school each day on the interactive WOW Travel Tracker and those who walk (wheel, scoot, cycle or Park & Stride!) at least once per week for a month are rewarded with a badge. It’s that easy!

Bikeability

Cycle North are the working with Rotherham MBC to deliver safe riding lessons to the children of Rotherham. The training is aimed at Primary school children aged 10 and 11 and will :

  • Improve skills and ability to ride a bike safely.
  • Increased riding confidence
  • Increase knowledge on road safety
  • Be able to map safe routes to schools

ModeShift – Secondary schools

Gain Active Travel Accreditation for your school - The Active Travel Ambassador (ATA) programme provides young people aged 11 upwards with the confidence and skills to address transport issues affecting their school community. With support from an ATA Coordinator and school staff, ATA teams research and develop behaviour change campaigns, focusing on active travel and road safety.
