A633 Broad Street

Improvements are proposed for the A633 on Broad Street, on the approach to Parkgate Roundabout, Rawmarsh. They intend to improve bus journey times, help people to cross the road and enhance the highways environment.

They include:
• A 100m bus lane on the southbound approach to Parkgate Roundabout
• A signalised pedestrian crossing, in place of the existing central island, outside Aldi
• Carriageway widening to accommodate the extra lane
• Enforcement cameras at the entrance of Aldi and the exit from Asda, to prevent restricted manoeuvres on to and off Broad Street
• Improved signage
• More conveniently located bus stops on both carriageways

In addition, the two lanes leaving the roundabout will merge into a single lane sooner on Broad Street to allow the new bus lane to be accommodated.

Funding for the scheme is from Rotherham Council capital funding and City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) funding from the Local Neighbourhoods Complimentary Transport Programme (LNCTP). CRSTS funding is allocated by the Department for Transport via the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority for driving growth and productivity through infrastructure investment, and for decarbonising transport, especially promoting modal shift from cars to public transport, walking and cycling.

An online consultation is running from 13 April to 22 May for feedback from residents and businesses.
