Towns and VIllages Fund: Wickersley North Ward

Site Selected

Wickersley North ward’s extent of the Wickersley District Shopping Area, on the north side of Bawtry Road. Running from the Mason’s Arms public house to the junction with Rosemary Road.

Wickersley Clock Tower.

Current Site Issues

The area would benefit from general upgrades to the public realm to improve the overall appearance for local residents, businesses and visitors to the area.

Footways across this area have been repaired from various streetworks, which provides a patchwork effect. Existing street furniture and landscaping features appear dated and would benefit from replacement to provide a more consistent and contemporary public realm.

The existing assets of the area, such as the Wickersley Clock, would benefit from an enhanced setting. The existing grassed area with seating, would also benefit from improved seating and planting to provide a more pleasant area for people to enjoy.

Details of the Proposal

A concept design has been developed which looks to enhance the public realm in the area.

The setting of the clock tower and the adjacent area, by the underpass entrance, will be visually uplifted through resurfacing with a resin bonded aggregate. The clock tower itself will be illuminated by uplighters and new bollards, in a consistent style, are proposed to be provided across these areas.

New seating and planters are also proposed and soft landscaping to the green space is proposed to be enhanced with a more diverse planting mix and screen hedging. It is hoped this will encourage greater biodiversity and provide a buffer to the dual carriageway.

Seating areas in the greenspace are also proposed to be upgraded with the provision of block paved areas.

A scheme of footway resurfacing is also proposed to the wider area.
