Signs of self-neglect can include:

very unclean conditions or property being in a poor state of repair

dishevelled or inappropriate clothes for the weather
- vermin, flies, or unpleasant smells around the home
- poor diet and nutrition
- lack of personal hygiene
- isolation
Causes of self-neglect
It is not always possible to find a cause for self-neglect. Self-neglect does not mean someone has a mental health problem.
It might be caused by:
- poor physical health
- poor mental health
- addiction
- physical illness
- traumatic life changes
