The Council follows an active enforcement approach for those who disregard the law. The principles of the Enforcement Concordat are followed and these are embodied in the Council's General Enforcement Policy.
Our Enviro-crime Unit is one of the most active enforcing teams in the country. Where education and promotion of a cleaner environment the approach we have is to instigate legal proceedings. This may be from reports from members of the public or from patrols and the targeting of hotspot areas.
Where offences are witnessed various legal approaches can be followed, this including initiating court proceedings or the serving of fixed penalty fines.
