Area Based Housing Panel Suggestion Guidance Notes
The Area Based Housing Panel funding is a budget from the HRA (Housing Revenue Account), which is from the council tenants rent money to pay for environmental projects and improvements, where Council tenants or a majority of Council tenants in their neighbourhoods, will directly benefit.
Generally speaking, projects supported and delivered through this funding should link in some way to the management and maintenance of the Council’s homes and estates and improving services to tenants.
The money is allocated each financial year. Once the money is fully committed, usually no later than autumn each year, any further project requests would be considered for approval from the following year’s budget.
Each project must be long lasting and deliver outcomes which produce a positive long term benefit and impact, to tenants and neighbourhoods.
Projects should also contribute towards addressing ward, council and partnership priorities, for example the reduction of crime and/or the fear of crime; addressing anti-social behaviour; improving the quality of our neighbourhoods and the general environment etc.
Set out below are examples of some of the project activities that Area Based Housing Panels have delivered previously:
- Security fencing
- Parking bollards in problem parking areas
- Security lighting/additional street lighting
- Planting schemes
- Improvements to playgrounds on Housing land
- Community noticeboards and benches
- Motorcycle barriers
- Improved signage
This is not an exhaustive list and project suggestions will be considered on their merits, in accordance with the guidance above and the information provided within this application form.
