Animal health and welfare

Our Animal Health Inspectors enforce a wide range of legislation designed to protect the health and welfare of both domesticated and wild animals.

The main duties include:

  • Protecting the welfare of animals at farms, in transit and at livestock markets/animal gatherings
  • Prevention, control and eradication of notifiable animal diseases such as foot and mouth
  • Ensuring that animal movements can be traced to safeguard human and animal health from transmitted diseases
