Death certificate copies
To issue a short or full copy death certificate, we will need the deceased's:
- full name (Including all middle names)
- date of death
- age at death or date of birth
- place of death (for example, name of nursing home or hospital)
- home address, if different from place of death
- occupation
The cost for each non-urgent certificate is £12.50. This fee applies to both short or full certificates. The national target for issuing non-urgent certificates is 15 working days from the date of request.
A short certificate does not contain sensitive information regarding the deceased’s gender or cause of death. The registration service cannot guarantee whether an organisation would accept a short certificate for dealing with the deceased’s estate, rather than a full certificate.
The Registration Service recommends that applicants opt for Royal Mail’s ‘Signed For’ postage at a cost of £3.35 per order, this is subject to change in line with Royal Mail fees. Where customers opt for standard postage there is no additional charge.
If you require a certificate urgently there is a statutory fee of £38.50 payable and you will need to telephone the registration service on 01709 823542 to request this service.
If you have not received your certificate, please only contact the service if you have not received your certificates 20 working days after placing your order.
