If you are involved with the Youth Offending Service or the Probation Service
If you find yourself involved with the Youth Offending Service or Probation, your worker from those services will help you understand the process and what you need to do.
Your social worker or PA will offer to support you with any court appearances. Your social worker or PA will stay in touch with workers from other services so that you can be well supported by everyone around you.
If you spend any time in custody, whether that is in a Youth Offending Institution or a prison, your social worker and PA will visit you and will keep in touch with you. For young people in custody, we will contact you or visit you more frequently than 8 weekly if you agree to this.
Before you leave custody, we will work with the prison or YOI and your other workers to support you with where you will live and coming out of custody.

If you are a young person who has sought asylum in the UK (a Separated young person)
If you arrived in the UK as a child or young person and sought asylum, you will be referred to either the Children in Care team or the First Response team. Depending how you arrived in the UK and what the Home Office assessed your age as when you entered, an assessment may take place to determine your age.
We will support you to access clothing, education and health services. We will support you to meet your faith and cultural needs, let you know about activities that you might like to take part in and help you become part of the community. If you have family abroad or in the UK, we will support you to try and keep in touch with them, once sensible checks have been done to make sure you are safe.
You will be supported with accommodation, and we will help you to find a solicitor and make your asylum claim. Rotherham Council will not know what the outcome of your asylum claim will be until your claim has been assessed by the Home Office. We understand that, whether you have claimed asylum, are awaiting a decision or have leave to remain, it can be an uncertain and worrying time. We will be here with you and will support you with those worries.
There are lots of agencies who can support you as a separated young person, and we will help you to get in touch with those who can offer you the right support.
We will support you with interpreters to help you talk to us and any other agencies that you need to communicate with, and to attend important meetings.
