Aston and Todwick ward

Providing vibrant, connected and safe neighbourhoods is a priority for Rotherham Council and communities are at the heart of everything we do.  Aston and Todwick Ward Councillors were elected to listen to your views and work with you to make a difference in the local community.

We know many of our residents are passionate about making their community a better place to live and we are here to work in partnership and make these improvements a reality.  Councillors used a range of information – listening to local residents and council staff, looking at statistics and other data – to develop these ward priorities:

Aston and Todwick Ward priorities

Priority 1: Develop and support initiatives around road safety and transportation through:

• Campaigning to improve the function and safety of the Red Lion roundabout and A57 at Todwick to the M1
• Seeking to influence franchising of buses for the benefit of local residents
• Working with Transportation and Highways to improve potholes, traffic calming, road and pavement repairs
• Working with schools, partners and Council services to improve road safety around schools.

Priority 2: Engage with local businesses to raise awareness and leverage opportunities that benefit the local economy by:

• Promoting the work of RIDO and connecting local business to opportunities
• Ensuring businesses have a voice in consultations and local matters
• Working with the Employment Solutions Team to promote employment opportunities.

Priority 3: Support initiatives and interventions that reduce crime and improve community safety, particularly in hotspot areas by:

• Promoting and using ward budgets to support interventions and community action that prevents crime and anti-social behaviour
• Working with South Yorkshire Police to improve their visibility in Aston and Todwick
• Responding to concerns highlighted in data and community intelligence
• Encouraging residents to report crime and anti-social behaviour and raise awareness of safe mechanisms of reporting.

Priority 4: Develop and support initiatives that improve the local environment, community and green spaces through:

• Promoting and supporting groups and activities that help to keep the ward clean and tidy
• Working with Council services and partners to ensure communal and green spaces are accessible and well maintained
• Identifying and delivering improvements to play areas and local recreational facilities
• Encouraging residents to report issues around rubbish, fly tipping and litter bins.

Priority 5: Support initiatives that help to improve mental health/wellbeing and tackle loneliness and isolation by:

• Identifying and supporting people/groups who may be more at risk or vulnerable
• Ensuring people can and know how to access the services/support they need
• Raising awareness of support services and organisations in the community
• Promoting and supporting activities for children and young people.
