Ward plan

Providing vibrant, connected and safe neighbourhoods is a priority for Rotherham Council and communities are at the heart of everything we do.  Boston Castle Ward Councillors were elected to listen to your views and work with you to make a difference in the local community.

We know many of our residents are passionate about making their community a better place to live and we are here to work in partnership and make these improvements a reality.  Councillors used a range of information – listening to local residents and council staff, looking at statistics and other data – to develop these ward priorities:

Boston Castle Ward priorities

Priority 1: Help communities to be safe and feel safe

  • Monitor and respond to crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Ensure that all CCTV details are logged and are in the relevant locations to provide coverage of hotspot areas
  • Raise awareness of hate crime within the community and how to report it
  • Work to develop initiatives around women’s safety
  • Work with Councillors and the community to deliver Rotherham Council's Grounds Maintenance community clean-up days

Priority 2: Ensure families are supported as we emerge from the pandemic

  • Continue to support the Rotherham Minster Social Supermarket and other local food banks
  • Promote and supply information linked to the cost of living grants
  • Work with partners to ensure access to advice, information and support
  • Arrange a stakeholder forum to look at existing support available to families and to identify any gaps

Priority 3: Support initiatives which bring together new and existing communities in the Town Centre and wider ward

  • Work with Councillors and partners to develop a Rotherham Council Towns and Villages Fund proposal to improve the Wellgate area
  • Help communities come together by working with other partners 
  • Identify what information will be helpful for residents on new development sites
  • Work with Councillors and partners on initiatives providing support to refugees/asylum seekers

Priority 4: Work with communities to improve local green spaces

  • Continue to work with stakeholders on the potential development of a Herringthorpe Playing Fields Masterplan, and some tree planting
  • Continue to work with stakeholders on improvements in Clifton Park
  • Support ongoing projects in Boston Park, following the completion of the Yorkshire Water work
  • Support Friends of Moorgate Cemetery 

Priority 5: Support initiatives designed to develop an understanding of / involve our diverse communities

  • Promote and support the development of culturally diverse celebration events
  • Arrange a stakeholder forum to increase our understanding of communities needs
