Ward plan

Providing vibrant, connected and safe neighbourhoods is a priority for Rotherham Council and communities are at the heart of everything we do.  Sitwell Ward Councillors were elected to listen to your views and work with you to make a difference in the local community.

We know many of our residents are passionate about making their community a better place to live and we are here to work in partnership and make these improvements a reality.  Councillors used a range of information – listening to local residents and council staff, looking at statistics and other data – to develop these ward priorities:

Sitwell Ward priorities

Priority 1: Address your concerns in relation to road safety and traffic

  • Respond to community concerns around the Ward with regards to road safety/traffic beginning with:
    • Purchasing and deploying four Vehicle Activated Speed Signs on East Bawtry Road and Broom Lane
    • Exploring what steps can be taken to address driver behaviour at the Broom Lane zebra crossing
    • Working with South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Council on a cross-ward speeding issue

Priority 2: Work with you to improve your local community

  • Receive progress reports from Rotherham Council's Drainage team on proposals to reduce the risk and impact of flooding
  • Work with the Environment Agency and Yorkshire Water on potential community projects (following on from previous Whiston Brook clean up days)

Priority 3: Improve the environment you live in

  • Support work designed to enhance the appearance of key sites around the ward, including:
    • Continuing the development of the Towns and Villages funded project around Stag roundabout
    • Continuing the landscaping works at Worrygoose rounabout, which has included the planting of a Christmas Tree
    • Herringthorpe Valley Park
    • Whiston Meadows
    • Long Lane

Priority 4: Improve facilities for young people and their quality of life

  • Improve existing facilities through investment beginning with:
    • Whiston Cricket Club, but potentially expanding to include other sporting and leisure facilities
    • Securing funding to improve the play area on Greystones Road

Priority 5: Address your concerns in relation to crime and anti-social behaviour

  • Receive and respond to reports of crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Ensure CCTV in right places covering anti-social behaviour, fly tipping, etc
