The £1.72 million secured funding will support community-driven solutions aimed at improving transport infrastructure and accessibility. We are now in the process of developing on recommendations, this will include working with your elected councillors to prioritise solutions.
Thank you to everyone who participated. Your input is helping to create a safer, more connected neighbourhood.
How has the consultation shaped the design
Designs are still not finalised, and we are exploring how to include as much community feedback as possible whilst still ensuring the design is compliant with best practice guidance.
Primary Scheme
Accessing businesses: We have worked with businesses on Stag roundabout specifically relating to creating a buffer between their establishments and the road edge. This has been incorporated into the design. We are also ensuring that all parking is retained and easy to access. On the exit to Herringthorpe Valley road south, we are including additional security to prevent drivers exiting the roundabout and crossing directly over the oncoming lane to access business parking due to concerns of safety.
Greenery: The scheme retains trees as this has been highlighted by many as a crucial part of the character of the area. We are also considering opportunities to increase biodiversity through low maintenance, high value verge planting.
Cycleways: We are incorporating Dutch kerbs to provide cyclists with a smooth path that is not hindered by drop kerbs, but is also easy for cars to mount when entering a driveway.
Neighbourhood Streets
Alongside your local ward councillors, we have started to look at suggestions made by the community for the £1.72million protected fund. We will seek to deliver as much of community demand as we can with the funding available however, we will be determining a short list depending on the level of intervention requested. This includes proposals for:
- Broom Lane
- Broom Valley Road
- Brunswick Road
- Beaconsfield Road
- Grange road
- Spinneyfield road
Our contractors are developing concept ideas based on the consultation so far, these will focus on pedestrian improvements such as crossings and pavement upgrades, as well as traffic calming to reduce speeds and deter dangerous driving especially nearby schools.
