Your voice matters – help shape your neighbourhood’s future
Rotherham Council wants to hear your views about a new Selective Licensing scheme that could be introduced in six parts of the borough.
The current scheme has ended, now it’s your chance to help decide what happens next.
The Council would like to thank all those who have already responded to this consultation earlier this year, and would like to reassure you that your contributions are being analysed and will be included in the September Cabinet Paper.
The consultation has been extended so everyone has the chance to take part. It will be made live on 30 June 2025. and will close on the 20 July 2025.
Those who have not yet responded, this is your last chance to shape how Selective Licensing is managed in your area, don’t miss out.
The Council has proposed 6 areas within the Borough, some include the same areas as the existing designations. The areas are:
- Brinsworth
- Dinnington
- Eastwood / East Dene / Clifton / Town centre / Boston Castle
- Masbrough / Kimberworth
- Parkgate
- Thurcroft
If you are a private tenant, landlord, agent, business or resident in any of these areas, this consultation is for you.
No decision has been made yet on the proposals, which is why we are asking for your views. Your feedback will be presented to the Council’s Cabinet consideration and a final decision if these proposals will go ahead. .

Why respond to the consultation?
This is your opportunity as a Rotherham resident, or someone directly affected by these proposals to tell the Council if you support the proposals and what priorities you believe would best benefit your area. We want to hear your suggestions on how the Council and partners could help you, to improve the area you ether live or operate a business in.
The feedback from this consultation will be reported to Council before any decisions are taken and will influence the content of the ‘Area Plan’ for any areas which are declared under Selective Licensing.
This is your opportunity to get your priorities understood and addressed.
Introducing Selective Licensing in an area means that the Council would have the information, resources and powers which we need to ensure that all the private rented properties in the area are safe, in good condition and well managed. It will allow your area to benefit from additional service provision forup to 5 years.
