How can the council support local landlords and tenants

We want to support good landlords and tenants to provide and maintain safe and healthy homes. We also want to encourage both tenants and landlords to play their part in improving the local environment and reduce anti-social behaviour and crime. Some of the proposed ‘Area Plans’ anticipate enhanced tenancy support for the private sector and focused crime reduction strategies.

The council is proposing a reduced licence fee for landlords who have previously proved their commitment to good housing standards and received rebates in the previous scheme in recognition. The Council is working with the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA), to encourage membership, training and other initiatives to assist landlords operate a professional and viable property business.

The council is willing to consider proposal to enhance the private rented sector and improve the lives of residents.

How can you help to improve your area?

The council recognises that all the proposed areas have strengths as well as problems. These are usually drawn from the skills, knowledge, experiences and ambition of the people who live there.

If the proposed declarations go ahead, the council will want to help encourage and support local people who have ideas and ambitions for themselves, their families and their community. If this is you, please come forward and have serious conversations about what you feel would benefit the community and how that might happen.

There is a question on the online consultation feedback form which allows you to start that conversation by leaving your contact details.  As we have seen in earlier schemes, without local people becoming involved, it is difficult to deliver sustainable improvement.
