Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy Review

Background

This Consulatation is now closed

The Council is reviewing its Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy, more commonly referred to as ‘taxi’ licensing. This policy sets the standards that the Council expect from all drivers, vehicles and operator firms.

The Council published its current policy in 2015 and set what are generally accepted as the highest standards for taxi and private hire licensing in the UK.

The policy brought significant improvement in the regulation of the taxi and private hire trade in Rotherham. It has ensured that drivers, vehicles and operators adhere to the highest standards.

Many of these standards have subsequently been adopted by other councils and have also been included in new national guidance.

A review is now necessary to ensure that the Council continues to maintain high standards in Rotherham and share best practice with other local authorities across the country.
